It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to possess a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can do it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
