Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Reaction

The manager lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
