Retired Australian Cricket Star Damien Martyn Admitted to Hospital and in Induced Coma After Meningitis Diagnosis.
The former Australian Test cricketer Damien Martyn has been admitted to hospital and put into a medically induced coma following a diagnosis of meningitis.
Critical Condition Revealed
Martyn, aged 54, “is in for the fight of his life”, according to ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who revealed Martyn’s health situation on Tuesday.
“Let’s hope he can pull through because it’s really serious,” Hardie said.
Martyn remains in a serious condition after falling ill on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, according to sources close to the family.

Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord.
A Stellar Cricket Career
Widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest batsmen, playing 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs for an average of 46.37 from 1992 and 2006.
His unbeaten 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – played with a fractured finger – was instrumental in Australia's win over India.
He announced a shock retirement in the middle of the 2005-06 Ashes series in England following difficulties in the opening two Tests.

Ex-colleague Darren Lehmann urged Martyn to “stay strong” via social media, as the cricket world began to react well wishes.
