19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional victory, took control to force a final set.
Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
