President Trump Invites Families of Shot Military Members to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” the governor informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
