Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
