Followers Urge Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a person who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, earning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
